BEHAVIOUR OF OLD AND NEW APRICOT CULTIVARS IN SARDINIA

G. Ondradu, B. Scalas
This research, supported by the Italian Ministry for Agricultural Politics (Mi.P.A.F.)-targeted “Project National list of recommended rootstocks and fruits varieties”, was conducted on 25 cultivars of different origin, in an experimental field of the Consorzio Interprovinciale per la Frutticoltura di Cagliari, Nuoro e Oristano, located in Uta, South-Western Sardinia. The main objectives of this research, carried out from 1994-2004, were: to verify the adaptability of the apricot cultivars tested to Sardinian environmental conditions, to select the cultivars of particular interest for productivity and good fruit characteristics and to introduce into Sardinia new cultivars to extend the ripening season. This study has made possible the individualisation of a fair number of apricot cultivars recommendable for these areas.
