EVALUATION OF ALMOND CULTIVARS IN KARAJ
In order to evaluate the performance of 25 almond cultivars, a study was conducted in a simple lattice design throw 1992-1997 in Karaj.
The cultivars were grafted on Sh.20 seedling rootstocks.
Annual shoot growth, plant height, canopy width, trunk circumference and (after entering in the reproductive phase) the time of flowering were evaluated.
The analysis of data was done using SAS program.
The results showed that Sh.22 had the maximum of plant height and Mamaii, Sh.17 and Na-9 had the minimum amount.
For canopy size, Sh.3 had the highest and Sh.13 and Sh.14 had the lowest width.
The cultivars Sh.1 and Sh.10 showed the maximum and minimum of trunk circumference respectively.
For flowering time the cultivars were classified in four groups: cv.
Monagha, cv.
Najaf Abad, cv.
Moheb Ali and Sh.10 as early blooming; cv.
Sh.20, Sh.19, Mamaii, Sh.8, Sh.2, Sh.22, Sh.14, Sh.18, Sh.4 , Sh.21, Sh.17, Sh.12 and Sh.1 as medium to late; Sh.11, Sh.5, Sh.3, Sh.6, Sh.13 and Sh.15 as late blooming and Sh.16 and Sh.7 as very late blooming cultivars.
