Investigation on air layering studies in the litchi was carried out at Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Bangalore. The influence of different months of layering and the effect of auxin at different concentrations along with 1-amino, 2-hydroxyphenyl, 4-sulphonic acids on rooting of layers were studied. Litchi air layers prepared during the months of June and July took significantly less number of days (35.2 and 32.3 days, respectively) for root initiation than those prepared during September (41.8 days). In IBA treated layers, root initiation was observed earlier than in those treated with NAA. The layers treated with IBA or NAA alone and in combination with 1000 mg L-1 of 1,2,4 acid (synergist) resulted in early root initiation (30-34 days) compared to layers treated with 1000 mg L-1 of 1,2,4 acid alone (50 days) and in untreated control (50 days). The layers prepared during July produced the highest percentage of rooting (59.7%), followed by June (51.8%) and the lowest percentage of rooting was recorded during September (40.5%).
