NEW SUMMER FRUITING RED RASPBERRY CULTIVARS FROM EAST MALLING RESEARCH

V.H. Knight, F. Fernández Fernández
Sales of fresh red raspberries (Rubus idaeus L.) are increasing every year and UK growers are keen to sell fruit to the multiple retailers (supermarkets) for as many weeks as possible. The raspberry breeding programme at East Malling Research aims to produce new, improved cultivars that will crop outside the main summer fruiting season in July. Four recent releases from the programme, 'Octavia', 'Malling Juno', 'Malling Minerva' and 'Valentina' are described below.
