THE ROLE OF PERFORMANCE TESTING AND STANDARDS IN THE SPORTS TURF INDUSTRY: A CASE STUDY APPROACH

K.W. McAuliffe
In the modern era of professional sport it is important for the turf industry to have access to scientific methods for measuring and specifying the performance of the playing surface. Playing surface performance standards can be used for several purposes, including ensuring consistency of standards for events, benchmarking progress over time and guiding maintenance operations. The NZ Sports Turf Institute has several projects underway that focus on developing playing surface quality standards. The methodology and practical application of these projects are described.
