THE INTERNATIONAL UNION FOR THE PROTECTION OF NEW VARIETIES OF PLANTS (UPOV) RECOMMENDATIONS ON VARIETY DENOMINATIONS
In 2006, UPOV adopted the Explanatory Notes on Variety Denominations under the UPOV Convention (document UPOV/INF/12/1), which replaced the UPOV Recommendations on Variety Denominations (document UPOV/INF/12 Rev.). The main purpose of those Explanatory Notes is to ensure that, as far as possible, protected varieties are designated in all members of UPOV by the same variety denomination, that the approved variety denominations establish themselves as the generic designations and that they are used in the offering for sale or marketing of propagating material of the variety, even after the expiration of the breeders right.
