In order to characterize the native germplasm along with introduced varieties of persimmon, a germplasm collection was established at the IVIA, Valencia, Spain in 2002. Currently, this collection has 80 accessions under study and is being extended yearly with new accessions collected across the world The main goal is to characterize the surveyed and introduced plant material. The diversity studies carried out into the collection would allow to point out the variability pattern, the most significant variables and to establish groups of accessions with similar traits. The information gathered will allow to define criteria for further uses of the plant material. In this paper, 25 accessions from the IVIA germplasm collection were studied using principal component analysis. Results from 34 variables were gathered. 70% of the variability observed was explained by the first 7 components. The variables that most contributed to the total variability are those related to fruit characteristics as fruit colour of flesh and skin, astringency, soluble solids and acidity content. High correlation values were observed between ripening season and fruit characteristics as weight, diameter, colour and astringency.
