WINTER CHILLING REQUIREMENTS OF APRICOT VARIETIES

A. Martínez Cutillas
We are reporting herein observations on the effects caused by high temperatures (20°), during 7 days, on flower buds from trees that have been maintained under temperatures lower than 7°C for varying periods of time. The rapid increase of dry weight of flower buds marks the end of the winter rest period. Based on these facts, the chilling requirements of 15 trees including 9 apricot varieties have been determined. These requirements range from 200 to 800 hours accumulation.
