APRICOT BREEDING UNDER CONDITIONS OF USSR SOUTH

K.F. Kostina
Some results of the Nikita Botanical Gardens' breeding-genetic work to breed apricot varieties with higher winter hardiness are summed up. Certain objective laws in inheriting a number of economically important characters in F1 hybrids have been stated, depending upon the parental forms and their origin. The breeding value of certain varieties as parental forms transmitting the characters of late flowering, higher winter-hardiness, early and late terms of fruit ripening, their size, colour, taste qualities and seed taste to hybrid progeny has been revealed.
