FIELD SUSCEPTIBILITY TO "MONILINIA LAXA" (ADERH.RT RUHL.) HONEY OF APRICOT CULTIVARS

C. Fideghelli, R. Quatra, G. Della Strada
By the experimental farm of the Istituto Sperimentale per la FrutticoltUra in Fiorano (Rome), in 1966 a variety testing trial has been established with cultivars from different Italian Regions and different countries all over the world. In the following years the variety trial has been improved with new cultivars. Starting since 1970 until 1977, except 1971, the incidence of the disease on 147 cultivars was recorded. The observations were made in spring (end of April, beginning of May), when the symptoms of the disease on young shoots are more evident. The sensitivity, determined by visual estimate, was scored from 0 to 5. To emphasize the differences among the cultivars, the sprays during and immediately after bloom, to control the disease, were not done. Tight correlation between bloom intensity and Monilia sensitivity and between blooming time and disease symptom. were found; a less strong correlation, but statistically sign1fioant, between the disease and rainfall in the week following the beginning of the blossoming was also pointed out.
