CONSIDERATIONS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A WALNUT INDUSTRY IN CHINA
The paper summarizes the position of the walnut industry in China and analyses six current limitations to expanded walnut production.
These limitations are as follows: (1) poor thickness of shell, (2) too large a proportion of precocious cultivars, (3) poor selection of cultivars and unsuitable arrangement of the pollination trees, (4) too high a tree density in orchards, (5) a large gap in the applied level of cultivation and management expertise, (6) excessive dispersion in management.
This article puts forward measures that may assist in overcoming these issues.
