EVENT AND DAILY GRIND - CHALLENGES IN AFTER-USE CONCEPTS OF INTERNATIONAL GARDEN FESTIVAL SITES IN AUSTRIA
Three International Garden Shows were held in Austria to date: two in Vienna in 1964 and 1974 and one in Unterpremstätten-Graz, Styria in 2000. This comparative survey indentifies the challenges in after-use of festival sites, with a special focus on the latest project in Graz, designed by the late landscape architect Dieter Kienast.
Four factors for a successful site are identified: location, design language, after use concept and maintenance.
In conclusion, the current and upcoming challenges in maintenance are already determined in the draft and the design language of the projects plan.
