CURRENT OCCURRENCE OF THE MAJOR LEPIDOPTERA PESTS IN THE ORIENTAL PEAR ORCHARDS IN KOREA
We report current occurrence of four major Lepidoptera pests such as, Grapholita molesta Busck, Adoxophyes orana Fischer von Röslerstamm, Archippus breviplicanus, and Carposina sasakii Matsumura, by sex pheromone traps in pear orchards. Grapholita molesta usually shows 4 to 5 adult occurrence peaks each year.
The 1st peak was from late April to early May, the 2nd and the 3rd peaks were not clear, and the 4th peak was late August in Pyeongtaek (Central area) in 2009. In Namyangju (central area), the 1st peak occurred early and mid-April, the 2nd peak in mid-May, the 3rd peak was in mid-late June, the 4th peak was from late August to early September.
Whereas the peaks in Cheonan (central area) appeared to be of a different pattern from those of the other areas; as 2 peaks in early April and early May.
In Asan (central area), the peak in early May was clear, but after that period the peaks were relatively uncertain.
In Naju (southern area), the 1st peak was evident in mid-April.
The others were comparatively clear in mid-June, late July, and late August to early September.
The occurrence peaks of A. orana usually show 3~4 times a year.
Four peaks of adult male occurrence in Pyeongtaek in 2009 were in early~late May, mid June~early July, early~late August, and early~mid-September, respectively.
The peaks occurred three times in Cheonan but were not clear in Asan because of the relatively few captured moths.
The Naju area showed peaks clearly and captured lots of moths in mid-September. C. sasakii exhibits 2 occurrence peaks a year.
In Pyeongtaek, the numbers of captured moths increased from early June to early July in 2009. After that, occurrence was low but the 2nd peak was shown from mid-July to late August.
In Cheonan, the occurrence pattern was different in 2007-2009. The C. sasakii occurrence was low in the Asan area and peaks showed in
mid-June and late August.
The occurrence in Naju tended mainly to be in mid-late June and August. A. breviplicanus adults occurred 2~3 times a year.
The number of captured moths was relatively low in all surveyed areas.
