EFFECTS OF EARLY PRUNING ON PRIMOCANES OF 'MEIGUO 22', 'SHENGLI' AND 'VETEN'
Early pruning was done on primocanes of summer-bearing raspberry cultivars Meiguo 22, Shengli and Veten. Two steps were carried out for early pruning: removing all shoots after sprouting and choosing training canes 20 days after first step. To evaluate pruning effects of different treatments, several indexes were measured, including the varying of the length, thickness of training canes and the density of the buds on training canes. Different pruning dates were set for the three cultivars based on their phenophases in Shenyang City. The results showed that proper early pruning measures could ease harvesting, reduce winter pruning labor, and make floricane long enough for the yield next year.
