ANALYSIS OF FLOWERING OF SEVERAL SWEET CHERRY CULTIVARS IN THE CLIMATIC CONDITIONS OF SOUTHERN POLAND
Open-pollinated flowers of four sweet cherries cultivars Van, Hedelfingen, Kordia, and Regina were used in this experiment. The study focused on pollen tube growth in the pistil depending on temperature and relative humidity and the determination of the regions where the growth of pollen tubes is inhibited as a result of gametophytic self-incompatibility. Temperature had a great effect on pollen tube growth in each section of the style. An increase of humidity by 1% above the upper limit resulted in a decrease of pollen tube growth by 1.68%. The results obtained showed that 71% of the pollen tubes grew up to one third of the style.
