RESEARCH ON SOMATIC EMBRYOGENESIS IN LILIUM LONGIFLORUM 'WHITE HEAVEN'

An efficient method for inducing somatic embryogenesis of Lilium longiflorum ‘White Heaven’ was developed. The bulb scales, measuring about 1x1 cm (length x width), were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with different concentrations of 6-benzylamino-purine(6-BA) and 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid(2,4-D) alone or in combination with lactalbumin hydrolysate(LH). The maximum embryogenesis rate was obtained in explants cultured for 60d in medium supplemented with 0.2 mg/L 6-BA, 0.5 mg/L 2,4-D and 400mg/L LH. Rate of induction of somatic embryogenesis were much better at dark environment than at light environment and outer bulb scales were more suitable for somatic embryo induction than inner and central scales. The results suggested that in vitro culture of somatic embryogenesis from lily bulb scales could be used for plant regeneration and rapid micropropagation.
