Light and its quality is one of major factors influenced plant growth and development. The choice of efficient lightening sources, development of new progressive technologies for greenhouses is one of the tasks for agricultural engineering. Plant reaction towards artificial lighting, as well as examination of the latest and most efficient lighting technologies in the growing of plants is discussed. Plant reaction towards the artificial lighting of different spectrums was tested. Widely used standard lamps and new non-standard lighting devices are described. Relative technically-economical calculations for determination of energy efficiency at different lighting classifications are performed. During the stage of patenting is developed a defective filament plant spectral lighting device. Our construction of spectral LED bulb device is brought into production. Besides all mentioned above there are also performed plant growth and development research at the different artificial lighting versions in the greenhouse of the Latvia University of Agriculture.
