INFLUENCE OF SAN JULIAN GF 655/2, MRS 2/5 JULIOR FERDOR AND CUARESMILLO ROOTSTOCKS ON THE PLUM CULTIVAR 'OZARK PREMIER'
The growth of plums (Prunus sp.) in Argentina constitutes a significant agricultural activity in several regions; being developed in well-specified agro-ecological areas as well as in some areas which are rather inadequate for its growth. The plum cultivar Ozark Premier grafted onto Cuaresmillo (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch), San Julian GF 655/2 (free pollination of Prunus insititia (L.)), MRS 2/5 (Prunus cerasifera (L.) × Prunus spinosa (L.)) and Julior Ferdor (Prunus insititia (L.) × Prunus domestica (L.)) was evaluated in the district of Abasto, Buenos Aires Province. The cultivars Golden Japan and Santa Rosa were used as pollinators. The panting distance was 4×3 m and sprinklers were used for irrigation. The following measurements were made: diameter of the scion at a distance of 15 cm above the graft union, tree height, width of the tree crown both in the orchard row and between rows, fruit production (kg per tree) and mean fruit weight. Vegetative growth data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and in those cases where there were significant differences in the obtained value of F, Tukeys test was applied. Yield data were analyzed using the Student Test and the ANOVA. Julior Ferdor, Cuaresmillo and San Julian GF 655/2 had greater vegetative growth than MRS 2/5. The rootstocks MRS 2/5 and Cuaresmillo each had reduced fruit number and mean fruit weight, especially in the second harvest season.
