In case of unavailability of pollen, we use stored pollen. For that we studied the effect of simple and economic storage of pollen on its physicochemical characteristics, cytological and characters production. The study of some physico-chemical and physiological pollen with dried spikelets, stored by three methods in paper bags at home or on the farm or in the refrigerator, showed that after eight months of storage, the pH becomes slightly acidic and the electrical conductivity of pollen stored in the farm, and at home increases to 1.8 µS/cm. The germination of pollen stored at home and in the farm are zero, after the summer. Only the pollen stored in refrigerator maintains a rate of 30%. Also we have studied the electron microscope cytological status of pollen preserved by spikelets and powder in refrigerator, frozen pollen powder without and with drying and storage of spikelets under ambient conditions. If the pollen comes from an early inflorescence, we get a mixture of bicellular grains pollen. The pollen of late inflorescence has uniform structure. Early or late refrigerator pollen, especially as spikelets, preserves the physiological and cytological pollen grains. The early fresh powder of pollen, stored in freezer has grains of which the cytoplasm is completely disintegrated. Pollen early or late and dehydrated before freezing does not undergo this decay reserves and mitochondria. The spikelets later kept in dry ambient conditions have a single dominant form in which the pollen grains have in addition to the usual pseudo-aperture. The use of spikelets of pollen stored in the refrigerator for a year in the ‘Baydir’ cultivar induced a relatively low fruit set rates compared to fresh pollen. Refrigeration of pollen, especially in dry spikelets, would be a simple and economical method most recommended for farmers for the successful fertilization of their date palms.
