EVALUATION METHOD AND ITS APPLICATION FOR URBAN GREEN SPACES

H. Yan, P.Y. Hao, L. Dong, D.J. Pi
Urban green spaces are increasingly valued for multiple benefits such as ecosystem services, sequestration of atmospheric pollutants, habitat provision, amenity, and cultural values. Rapid urbanisation and serious environmental problems have led people worldwide to realise the significance of urban green spaces management towards a sustainable environment. The evaluation and monitoring of urban green spaces will be of great value not only for guiding the urban green planning, but also for providing opportunities for communities engagement and formulating best practice. Focusing on a case study of Chaoyang District in Beijing, an indicator system that comprised 8 indicators in two themes is established with a view to provide a framework for assessing and monitoring urban green spaces management performance.
