Ornamental Horticulture in the Global Greenhouse Symposium at IHC2014

Dear Members of ISHS Section for Ornamental Plants, As you already know the International Horticulture Congress will take place in August 2014 in Brisbane. A range of symposia are planned, please check www.ihc2014.org. Our section together with Commission Protected Cultivation is planning the Ornamental Symposium entitled "Ornamental Horticulture in the Global Greenhouse", conveners: Richard Criley (USA), Ed Morgan (New Zealand) and myself (Germany).
Additionally, the Section Ornamental Plants (SEOP) can organize a workshop. If you are interested in organizing a workshop during the IHC please let me know your ideas as soon as possible. For all of you who never attended a workshop at IHC I would like to explain what a workshop is/ is not. A workshop is not meant to be another oral papers session. It is usually held as an early evening session of about 1-1/2 to 2 hours in duration, featuring discussants around a specific topic. For example, in Lisbon, we tried to gather a group to discuss how taxonomic name changes impacted trade in ornamental plants, but had a very small turnout. It might also allow for a new working group to develop, for example Woody Plants. It could also serve as an idea generator for future SEOP symposia. Since we are working also with the Commission on Protected Cultivation, it might be worth including them in the workshop generation discussion. Hope to get a positive response from you. I look forward to seeing you next year in Brisbane
Kind regards, Margrethe Serek, chair of SEOP
