At the last FAV Health meeting in Brisbane, August 2014, we approved the venue for the next meeting as Brazil in October 2016. Unfortunately the economic circumstances of Brazil mean we have had to change the venue. One attractive option is to hold the meeting at the Quebec City Convention Centre in Quebec, Canada from 3-4 October 2016. This is immediately prior to 'BENEFIQ 2016', the International Rendezvous on Health Ingredients http://www.benefiq.ca/eng/
Swiss agricultural chemicals group Syngenta AG plans to buy back more than $2 billion worth of stock to boost shareholder returns after rejecting a takeover approach from Monsanto Co, selling its vegetable seeds business to fund the measure. Arising from that meeting there are a number of items that I wish to bring to your attention.

The third international Fascination of Plants Day 2015 will be launched under the umbrella of the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO). The goal of this activity is to get as many people as possible around the world fascinated by plants and enthused about the importance of plant science for agriculture, in sustainably producing food, as well as for horticulture, forestry, and all of the non-food products such as paper, timber, chemicals, energy, and pharmaceuticals.
Horticulture is a labour intensive sector that is important for human wellbeing: 'agriculture supplies protein, carbohydrates and staple crops - but we would have a pretty boring life without horticulture.' Nevertheless, in many countries, faculties of agriculture and their departments of horticulture have been swallowed by schools of life or earth sciences. As a result horticulture gets attention only as a side subject when specific crops are being addressed.
