Since 1991, fruit and vegetable production has been expanding in Uzbekistan. Although national supply should be sufficient for the population to receive recommended daily servings, fruit and vegetable intake remains inadequate, with a strong seasonal pattern. The horticultural supply in Uzbekistan is characterized by seasonal fluctuations which impact prices and other factors that then affect decisions on consumption. Detailed analysis of such factors was the focus of this study.

Climate change is affecting security of food production because of severe fluctuations in the world's weather. Many rare and endemic species are threatened by climate change. In situ conservation on its own cannot guarantee the survival of many endangered plant species. Therefore, in order to achieve the goal of conservation, simultaneous ex situ and in situ conservation is needed. Knowledge of plant micropropagation is very useful for developing several techniques for short/medium and long term conservation, such as slow growth storage and cryopreservation.
Over the past two decades, Georgia has become one of the largest producers of cultivated blueberries in the United States. As production expanded, several new blueberry yield/quality reducing diseases emerged. The most recent notable disease was Exobasidium leaf and fruit spot, caused by the newly described fungal pathogen Exobasidium maculosum. Although leaf spotting and quality-reducing green spots on fruit had been noted in producer fields for many years prior, it was considered more of a curiosity and not determined to be a production issue.
