PRODUCTION OF EVER-BEARING STRAWBERRY AND PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY IN KOREA

Woo Sung Lee
Ever-bearing strawberry was introduced into Korea as an export crop to Japan in the early 2000s. Commercial growing started in 2003 with growing ‘Bolero’ and ‘Flamenco’. Of the two cultivars, ‘Flamenco’ received consumer’s preference in fruit shape and is continued being grown for export. A new cultivar, ‘Charlotte’, was introduced in 2008 and is grown mainly for export. Ever-bearing strawberry is grown in a small scale now in Korea, but it has potential as an export crop and also high cash crop for domestic market. Development of good cultivars adapted to Korean cultural conditions and expansion of growing are thought necessary.
