Abstract
Few data are reported in the literature about Crithmum maritimum in association with symbiotic microorganisms.
This study examined the growth of Crithmum maritimum when associated with Glomus intraradices and/or with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, the mycorrhizal morphology and any correlation between them.
Plant treatments were carried out in a glass house and plants were watered regularly with a nutrient solution.
The plant symbiosis with the fungus and bacterium was evaluated using plant growth, mycorrhizal colonization and bacterial population characteristics.
The study of the vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal morphology demonstrated that Glomus intraradices formed an intermediate Arum-Paris type colonization with specific structural characteristics.
The colonization effectiveness did not correlate with the high fungal infectivity.
No synergistic interaction between Glomus intraradices and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens in plant shoot or plant root growth was detected.
Optimal results for plant growth were obtained from plants inoculated with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and/or in combination with Glomus intraradices compared to plants inoculated with Glomus intraradices and control plants.
