Study on the floral fragrance components and osmophore groups of modern rose ‘White Lychee’

Abstract
Rose’s fragrance traits are unique, and it is a potential material for floral fragrance research, however, domestic and international research related to floral fragrance of ornamental plants has just started, and there are fewer studies related to osmophore groups.
Therefore, in this study, modern rose ‘White Lychee’, which has a strong floral fragrance, was used as the test material to determine its floral fragrance components, using histochemical staining to localize the fragrance release sites, and carry out ultrastructural observation to further study the fragrance release pattern of rose petals.
The results showed that 2-phenylethanol and geranyl acetate were the main floral scent substances of the modern rose ‘White Lychee’, whose petals’ upper and lower epidermis were the main stained parts, with a large number of granular cellular inclusions in the cells, and a large amount of cuticle on the cell surface as well.
These structures were related to the synthesis and release of floral scent substances.
This study provides a theoretical basis for the study of plant cell staining and localization, and provides a reference for the analysis of the fragrance release mechanism of rose petals and the production and application of aromatic plants.
