Abstract
Both in vitro and mist propagation systems were tested for Annona cherimola Mill., which is grown in Southern Europe.
Mist propagation of cuttings from adult plants resulted in a low rooting percentage, depending on the clone and the phenological phase.
Thick root cuttings (20–30mm diameter) from a 5 year old plant did not regenerate adventitious buds.
The degree of in vitro shoot proliferation was compared for material from 2–3 week old and 2 year old seedlings on Murashige and Skoog basal medium containing different concentrations of cytokinins.
Because of high contamination it was not possible to test explants from adult trees (30 year old) of cv.
Tardiva.
A higher relative growth rate was associated with the younger seedlings.
A different type of growth was also detected in relation to the age of the source plants.
In explants from 2 year old plants, sprouting was obtained only from axillary buds; in material from 2 week old seedlings multiple shoot formation resulted from primary roots, hypocotyl and epicotyl.
