Forty-five interspecific crosses were made and 5 000 F1 hybrid seedlings were obtained. Hybrids between A. chinensis and A. eriantha were studied in detail. Eight hybrids had double flowers, two were monoecious and two female hybrids flowered five times each year in Wuhan. The monoecious and the multiple flowering hybrids had chromosome counts of 2n = 3x = 87. The relationship between seed number and fruit weight in the hybrids was also studied.
