SELECTION OF PISTACHIO NUT AND THEIR COMPARISON TO TURKISH STANDARD VARIETIES
This study was carried out between 1985 – 1992 in provinces of Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Kahramanmaras and Adiyaman where pistachios grow intensively.
During the study, 16 pistachio types were selected. Among these types selection 1, 10 and 14 had larger nuts with higher splitting and kernel percentages than the favorite Turkish standard pistachio cultivar, Siirt. Selection No 8 and 11 came into bearing much earlier than the Turkish standard cultivars, but they produced small nuts with low splitting percentages. The promising types were planted in a plot for further evaluation.
