Abstract
Experiments on the effect of temperature on bud formation in Hydrangea showed that 15–18°C were optimal for most of the cultivars.
Higher temperatures increased the number of leaf pairs formed prior to bud initiation.
Low temperatures during the bud forming period seem to reduce the need for low temperature storage before forcing.
Short day hastened flower bud differentiation at high temperature.
At 15–18°C the plants were nearly day neutral.
Low light intensities delayed the bud formation and gave a high percentage blind shoots.
