EFFECTS OF POSTHARVEST HANDLING AND CULTIVARS ON KEEPING QUALITY OF ONIONS (ALLIUM CEPA L.) IN STORAGE

Zs. Füstös, M. Pankotai Gilinger, A. Ombodi
Five onion cultivars were studied for five years in order to determine the optimal harvest time.

The postharvest handling included different curing treatments (curing in the field, drying by heated air, defoliation or partial defoliation).

Besides the influence of cultivar on storability, the role of different parts of the bulb (stem base, neck, dry scale) has been studied, too.

The role of the cultivars was significant in every experiment. The variety order of keeping quality was the same apart from the treatments.
